Enduement with Power
vThe Last command of Jesus
·And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
·And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
·For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
·When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
·And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
·But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
·And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
The most important words of any man are usually reserved for His final hours upon the earth. Just before Jesus departed the earth for heaven, His disciples were in expectation that he would restore political power unto Israel.
At this time Israel was under the Political rule and dominion of the Roman Empire. This physical dominion of the Romans was a type and shadow of the rule of Satan over the human race.
When Jesus left the earth, he left the disciples with nothing physical. He gave them no money, no properties or physical assets as it were.Even though the disciples like every other Jew were expecting the messiah to restore political power unto Israel, yet Jesus did not do that but rather he introduced them to another type of power that was to be more powerful than the political power.
‘Do not leave the city of Jerusalem’, Jesus commanded them. But tarry until you are endued with power from on high. Everything about their lives and future was going to be based on their ability to obey that instruction. Jesus literarily commanded them to stay in Jerusalem until they have received the enduement with power. They were not to start doing anything about obeying the great commission of going into the world to preach the gospel until they had obeyed this commandment to tarry in Jerusalem for enduement with power.
Obedience to this last command of Jesus was to be the key to success in every endeavor to preach the glad tidings. Obedience to this last command of Jesus is the missing factor in the church today.
The church of Jesus has done everything else but obey this last instruction of Jesus to tarry until there is an enduement with Power from on high.
üEnduement with Power – What does it mean to be endued with power?
To understand what it means to be endued with power we will begin by looking at what it does not mean.
To be endued with power does not mean to receive the Holy Spirit. It is possible to have received the Holy Spirit and not be endued with Power.
·But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:
The enduement with power is an experience that was to come after that the Holy Ghost is come. The Holy Ghost was to come first, then after the Holy Ghost comes there was to be another experience of being endued with Power.
The command of Jesus to the disciples was not to tarry until the Holy Ghost is come but rather they were to tarry until they were endued with Power from on high.
There is a big difference between having the Holy Ghost and being endued with Power.
Failure to understand this difference is one of the reasons why there is so much lack of power in the body of Christ.
